System Configuration

The System Configuration section provides access to core CIS settings and administrative tools. This guide covers the essential configuration steps needed to prepare your CIS installation for competition use.

🔐 Accessing System Configuration​

Step 1: Navigate to Admin Section​

From the main CIS dashboard:

  1. Click on the System menu in the top navigation
  2. Drop down to select any of the configuration options

Authorization Required

System Configuration requires full administrator privileges. Ensure you're logged in with an admin account that has system-level access. These settings affect all competitions and users within the CIS.

⚙️ Configuration Sections​

The CIS Configuration interface is organized into four main sections that control different aspects of the competition system:

Competition Settings

Configure basic competition information and operational parameters:

Competition Information​

  • Competition Name: The official name displayed throughout the system
  • Competition Code: Short identifier for system use (e.g., "WSUK")
  • Secondary Logo: Upload additional branding image for competition materials - will appear on top left of the screen and on printed documents.
  • Use same competition days for all skills: Synchronize schedules across all skill areas

If youy are using diffrent dates for different skills you must not select this option. This will allow you to set different dates for each skill.

📊 Marking​

Marking Configuration

Set up assessment criteria, scoring parameters, and marking team requirements:

Assessment Parameters​

  • Maximum mark for an aspect: Default scoring scale (typically 2-3 points)
  • WSOS field in Aspects is mandatory: Require WorldSkills Occupational Standards field. This will affect the marking scheme and will require that the marking schme to have allocated WSOS field for each sub criterion.
  • Judgement Aspect benchmarks are mandatory: Require assessment criteria benchmarks
  • Marking teams must be defined for each sub criterion: Enforce team assignments
  • Allow to set marking team size for each skill: Enable skill-specific team sizing (this will allow you to set different team sizes for each skill. E.g when you have only 2 or 3 judges for a skill you can set the team size to 2/3 instead of 4 which is the default value - 3 judges and 1 supervisor)
  • Hide Sub Criteria being marked on future days from desktop data entry interface: Control visibility. This will allow judges to see only the sub criteria that they are marking on the current day. This is useful when you have multiple days of marking and you want to keep criteria secret until the day of marking.
  • Hide Sub Criteria being marked on future days from tablet marking interface: Tablet-specific visibility - same as above but for tablet marking interface.
  • Hide maximum mark of Aspects on marking forms where possible: Simplify marking forms. This will hide the maximum mark for each aspect on the marking forms. This is useful when you want to keep the maximum mark secret until the end of the competition.
  • Allow markers to take photos and upload images: Enable photo documentation for marking. Tablet only.
  • Maximum number of photos per sub criterion for each Competitor: Set photo limits (typically 10) per skill.

Results Configuration

Configure medal systems, scoring scales, and result calculation methods:

Scoring Scale Selection​

Choose your competition's scoring methodology:

  • WorldSkills Scale: Standard international scoring system (700)
  • 500 Scale: Alternative 500-point scoring system (Old WorldSkills format)
  • 100 Scale: Traditional 100-point percentage-based scoring (You should select this option for, training, regionals, and other competitions that do not use 700 scale).

Ex Aequo Point Difference​

Handle tied scores with point differences:

  • 2 points: Standard tie-breaking difference
  • 1 point: Closer tie-breaking threshold
  • 0 points: No point difference for ties

Medal Point System​

Configure achievement levels and point values:

  • Gold Medal Points: Highest achievement level (typically 4 points)
  • Silver Medal Points: Second tier achievement (typically 3 points)
  • Bronze Medal Points: Third tier achievement (typically 2 points)
  • Medallion for Excellence Medal Points: Special recognition (typically 1 point)

Advanced Options​

  • Allow all Associate Members to award Best of Nation: Enable associate member awards. Leave unchecked for any setup but WorldSkills competitions.

System Settings

Manage file paths, interface settings, and audit trail configurations. You should leave these settings as they are unless you have a specific reason to change them.

  • File System Path for Images: System location for uploaded images
    • Default: C:/Program Files/cis/content/Competition_Name/
  • Sort People by: Choose default sorting method
    • Name: Alphabetical by name (selected)
    • Member: Sort by member organization
  • Unicode Font List: Configure character encoding for international text
  • Log Audit Trail of Mark Entry: Track all scoring activities ✅
  • Log Audit Trail of Mark Locks: Monitor score finalization events ✅
  • Default Language: System interface language (English)
Save Configuration

Remember to save your settings after configuring each section. Changes take effect immediately and apply to all competition activities.
